The winery is located in the municipality of Siebeneich near Terlan in the Adige Valley (province of Bolzano) in the Italian wine-growing region of South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige region). Archaeological finds of charred wine cores and wine-growing tools such as vine knives and bronze vessels from the 5th to 3rd century B.C. testify to a wine culture thousands of years old. The origin of Kornell goes back to the 13th century. A sight to see is the historical cellar with an old torggel (tree press) from the 17th century. The traditional Brigl family has been active in the cellar business since the 16th century. The Kornell estate was acquired by Leonhard Brigl in 1927. Friedrich Brigl founded the "Brigl'sche Eigenbaukellerei" in 1950. Since 2001 the business has been managed by Florian Brigl, with Marco Chistè as cellar master.

The vineyards cover 11.5 hectares of land owned and 3.5 hectares leased in the three municipalities of Siebeneich, Eppan Berg and Gries near Bolzano at an altitude of 270 to 550 metres above sea level. They are planted with the white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer, and with the red wine varieties Lagrein, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. After controlled steel tank fermentation, the red wines are aged for 14 to 18 months in French barriques or in traditional large oak barrels. Before being marketed, they mature again for almost ten months in the bottle. Premium wines include STAVES Merlot Riserva (18 months in 30% new barriques) and COSMAS Sauvignon Blanc (8 months on the fine yeast, aged in stainless steel). Around 100,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the Free Winegrowers South Tyrol.
