Region in northern Portugal with the three landscapes Beira Alta, Beira Baxa and Beira Litoral. The area also classified as Vinho Regional (VR) stretches from the border of Spain in the east to the Atlantic coast in the west. Viniculture has an ancient tradition here, which was already cultivated in the early Middle Ages by the Benedictine and Cistercian orders in the numerous monasteries. Others are Assario Branco, Arintho, Arinto Cercial, Arinto d'Anadia, Arinto Galego, Arintho, Azal Espanhol, Boal Cachudo, Chapeludo, Pedernã, Terrantez da Terceira and Torrontés. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. It must not be confused with the Cayetana Blanca (Avesso du Minho, Jaén Blanco), despite the fact that it appears to have synonyms or morphological similarities. The early ripening vine is sensitive to downy...

The white grape variety comes from Portugal. Synonyms are Asal, Asal Branco, Azal, Azal da Lixa, Carvalha, Carvalhal, Espinheira, Gadelhudo and Pinheira. It must not be confused with the varieties Amaral (Azal Tinto) or Alvarinho (Azal Blanco) because of common synonyms or morphological similarities. According to DNA analyses, azal is closely related to the Portuguese varieties Arinto, Loureiro and Trajadura. However, the parentage (parenthood) is unknown. The late ripening vine is susceptible to powdery and downy mildew, as well as botrytis. It...
