2020 Südtirol / Alto Adige DOC Merlot Riserva "Freiherr", Alto Adige, Italy

Somewhat smoky, leathery and floral aromas of ripe black berries and a little plum with dried tomatoes, earthy notes, smoke, a little soot, tobacco ash and paprika. Tart, ripe dark fruit with slightly sooty wood, tobacco, some coffee grounds and bitter chocolate, present, fine sandy tannins, quite persistent on the palate, lots of power and noticeable alcohol, plummy tones on the palate, has warmth and melting, smoky, slightly nutty, also dark ethereal spice in the background, not too deep, very good, again alcohol-rich finish with chocolaty tones.
