2019 Roero DOCG Riserva Valmaggiore, Piedmont, Italy

Relatively firm, tobacco, spicy oak and some undergrowth on the nose, ripe red and black berries with a hint of cold smoke, leather, meat and wild mushrooms. Ripe, juicy, slightly warm fruit with some vanilla and light milk chocolate wood spice, mushrooms again in the background, crumbly, sandy, youthful tannins, persistent on the palate, has power, a certain depth, roasted nuances, very light animal notes, very good, juicy and sweetish, woody-spicy finish. Needs some ageing.

Best to drink: Mitte 2025 bis 2031+. What our ratings mean
