The winery is located in the municipality of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the appellation of the same name on the southern Rhône. It was mentioned in documents as early as 1763. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was owned by Hercule Paul de Fortia d'Ijrban, after whom it is named. In 1919, it became the property of the lawyer Baron Pierre Le Roy de Boiseaumarié (1890-1967) through marriage. In the 1920s, he defined the geographical boundaries of the later appellation and determined the ideal grape varieties that are still valid today. He is considered the founder of the appellation system. Today, the winery is run by his descendants. For Châteauneuf-du-Pape, there is a yield restriction of a maximum of 35 hl/ha. The vineyards cover 30 hectares of vines. Of these, 27 hectares are planted with the red wine varieties Grenache Noir (70%), Syrah (25%), Mourvèdre and Counoise, and 3 hectares with the white wine varieties Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Clairette. The red wine matures for 12 to 18 months in barriques
