Appellation for red, rosé and white wines in the east of the French wine region Languedoc south of the city of Nimes. Although geographically still in the Languedoc, the area has been part of the Rhône wine region since 2004, as the wines are more in keeping with the typicality of the region (the enclave AOC Clairette de Bellegarde, however, belongs to the Languedoc). The area formerly known as "Costières du Gard" was renamed in 1989 to avoid confusion with the IGP Gard. The vineyards cover 4,600 hectares of vines on mighty gravel soils, spread over 24 communes in the Gard department.

This vine, which ripens at a medium late stage, is resistant to powdery mildew, botrytis and trickle, as well as to heat. It produces dark-coloured, full-bodied red wines with soft tannins and ageing potential. It...
