2019 Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione "Il Picchio", Tuscany, Italy

Firmly woven, deep aroma of ripe predominantly black berries with dry herbal notes, moderate, somewhat toasty wood spice, juniper and pepper as well as hints of tobacco and black olives. Ripe, tightly knit, tart dark fruit with toasty wood notes, some coffee grounds and dark chocolate, also a little allspice, pepper and juniper on the palate, ripe, crumbly sandy tannin, has power and warmth, good depth, liquorice in the background, a little damson compote, quite complex, salty mineral tones, very good, firm, juicy and spicy finish with still a little drying tannic grip. Needs to mature.
