DOC area for red wine in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone includes about 600 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Acqui Terme, Alice Bel Colle, Bistagno, Cartosio, Cassine, Castelletto d'Erro, Castelnuovo Bormida, Cavatore, Denice, Grognardo, Melazzo, Montechiaro d'Acqui, Morbello, Orsara Bormida, Ponti, Ponzone, Ricaldone, Rivalta Bormida, Sezzadio, Spigno Monferrato, Strevi, Terzo and Vison in the province of Alessandria. The wine is made from 100% pure Dolcetto grapes. There is also a longer matured Superiore with a higher alcohol content.

The red grape variety comes from Italy. The name means "little sweets" and refers to the sweet, slightly low acid grapes.
