The winery is located in the north of the municipality of Montalcino (province of Siena) in the Italian region of Tuscany. It was founded in 1957 by Giuseppe Cencioni, who was also a founding member of Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. Today the company is run by the Patrizio Cencioni. The estate is about 200 years old, the two farm buildings were built in 1970 and 2006. The vineyards cover 19 hectares, planted with Sangiovese and Merlot reds and Pinot Grigio(Pinot Gris) and Moscadello(Muscat Blanc) whites. The harvest is done by selective manual harvesting: The product range includes the DOC wines Rosso di Montalcino, Moscadello di Montalcino and Sant'Antimo, the DOCG wine Brunello di Montalcino and some IGT wines. Brunello di Montalcino is fermented in 100-hectolitre vats made from Slavonian oak. The red wine then ages for 30 months in 25-hectolitre barrels and, after bottling, for a further six months in the bottle. Around 55,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Half of these are exported to 36 countries worldwide, including the USA, Canada and Japan.
