2002 Valtellina Superiore DOCG Prestigio, Lombardy, Italy

Fairly mature nose, nutty, spicy oak, hint of tobacco, partly dried, predominantly dark berries, sugar candy in the background, some old oak and light mineral notes. Firm, mature, partly dried fruit on the palate, prominent tart, smoky, spicy oak, smoked bacon, bitter herbaceous notes and tobacco in the background, earthy and mineral notes, persistent and full-bodied, oak makes it a little brittle, good substance and has some depth, very good tart finish. The oak is now coming through more stronglys, and tends to dominate the wine with bitter, brittle notes.

Editor note: Very clean nose, slightly jammy with very ripe red berries and some plums, notes of wilted flowers, herbs and some coramel. More warm, very ripe fruit on the palate, elegantly juicy and creamy, almost silky texture with fine, only very slightly astringent tannins, delicate roasted notes in the background, mineral as well as sweetish herbaceous traces, very persistent, good depth, long finish. Currently in peak condition.

Editor note: Fairly shy nose, rosehip, light herbaceous notes, mature with some spicy nutty notes. Fairly firm on the palate with a strong backbone, some depth, complex and persistent mixed berry fruit, dried dark berries, rosehip and some malva, oak already well itnegrated, supports the wine, delicately spicy with a slightly sweet touch, herbaceous and mineral notes, attractive long finish.
