The "Winzergenossenschaft Königschaffhausen am Kaiserstuhl eG" in the German wine-growing region of
Baden was founded in 1933 and today consists of 370 member vintners. The cellar master is Reiner Roßwog. The vineyards cover a total of 204 hectares with the single vineyards Steingrüble on volcanic weathered rock with a thin layer of loess (only Pinot Noir) and Hasenberg on deep loess soils mixed with little volcanic weathered rock (only white wine varieties). They are planted with the varieties Pinot Noir (85 ha), Müller-Thurgau (42 ha), Pinot Gris (45 ha), Pinot Blanc (15 ha), Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The share of Burgundy varieties is over 70%. From the grapes of the older vineyards over 25 years old, the premium wines of the Selections and Barrique line are stored and matured. These vineyards are tended and cultivated under the strict guidelines of the quality manager and harvested by means of supervised yield reduction
The white wines ferment and mature in stainless steel tanks. The red wines are fermented by means of classic maceration over several days and are placed in large German oak barrels for many months for optimal maturation, as well as in barriques in some cases. The flagship of the red and barrique wines is the "Regnum", the best Pinot Noir of the year. Since 1962,
ice wines have been made almost continuously from Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer, and in recent years, for the first time, from Pinot Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition, bottle-fermented sparkling and semi-sparkling wines are also produced. The
winegrowers' cooperative is a member of the
German Barrique Forum
