The winegrowers' cooperative is located in the municipality of Erbach in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. The "Gasthaus zum Engel" or "Gutsauschank Winzer von Erbach" offers only its own wines. Ronald Müller-Hagen is the managing director and Siegfried Bug is the cellar master. The vineyards cover 32 hectares in the single vineyard sites Michelmark and Steinmorgen (Erbach), Klosterberg, Sandgrub and Wasseros (Kiedrich) as well as in the Großlage Honigberg. Around 30% of the Riesling and Spätburgunder areas are classified as Rheingau First Growths. These are cultivated by 35 member winegrowers according to specifications. The white wine varieties Riesling (with over 90% of the area), Pinot Gris and Cabernet Blanc are planted, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, St. Laur ent and Cabernet Dorio.
Moderate pruning and selective hand-picking ensure that only healthy and ripe grapes are processed. Traditional vinification is combined with state-of-the-art cellar technology. The Rieslings are mainly fermented in stainless steel tanks after sharp pre-clarification and temperature-controlled cooling, and are stored for a long time on the fine le es. They are vinified reductively in a fresh and fruity style. Some of the red wines are matured in barriques. In years with suitable weather conditions, ice wines are also produced. Secco (sparkling wines), bottle-fermented sparkling wines, noble brandies (grape, yeast, marc, wine), gin, liqueurs and wine jelly are also produced.
