The winery is located in the municipality of Guntramsdorf in the wine-growing region of Thermenregion (Lower Austria). The traditional family has been resident here for 300 years. A wine tavern is attached. The winery is run by the winegrowing family Gregor Schup. The vineyards cover 30 hectares of vineyards on the Eichkogel (Guntramsdorf) and in the Riede Schwaben (Gumpoldskirchen) with over 200,000 vines. They are planted with the white wine varieties Roter Veltliner, Rotgipfler, Zierfandler, Gelber Muskateller, Chardonnay and Riesling, and with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Blaufränkisch. With 33,000 vines, Eichkogel is one of the largest Pinot Noir vineyards in Austria. The company's motto "quality before quantity" is taken into account by a strong reduction in yields.
The vineyards are cultivated according to KIP rules. This includes cover crop and pest control using the confusion method. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are harvested by hand. The fermentation is carried out spontaneously. The wines are matured in stainless steel tanks (light and fruity white and red wines), the stronger wines in large wooden bar rels or in barriques. Top qualities can mature for up to four years, depending on the vintage. Long-lived, powerful wines are bottled without filtration. In years when the weather is suitable, Trockenbeerenauslese wines are made from 60- to 70-year-old vines. The wines are exported to Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, China, Great Britain, Liechtenstein and the Netherlands. Noble brandies (Hefebrand) are also produced.
