Terre Alfieri DOCG

DOCG area for white and red wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. After the DOC classification in 2009, the high classification was followed in 2020. It was named after the poet and playwright Vittorio Alfieri (1749-1803) from Asti. The zone covers 40 hectares of vineyards in 11 municipalities. These are 7 in the province of Asti (Antignano, Celle Enomondo, Cisterna d'Asti, Revigliasco, San Damiano, San Martino Alfieri and Tigliole) and 4 in the province of Cuneo (Castellinaldo, Govone, Magliano Alfieri and Priocca). If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna can be indicated followed by the name of the vineyard. The soils are characterised by the so-called Asti sands from marine sedimentary deposits that can be found here. The height of the vineyard must be at least 130 metres and at most 350 metres.

The white wine Terre Alfieri Arneis is made from at least 85% Arneis and a maximum of 15% of other authorised varieties. The maximum yield is 70 hl/ha, the minimum alcohol content is 12% and 12.5% for the Superiore. Terre Alfieri Nebbiolo red wine is made from a minimum of 85% Nebbiolo and a maximum of 15% of other authorised varieties. The alcohol content is at least 13% and it must be aged for at least 4 months. The Superiore must have an alcoholic content of at least 13.5% and must mature for at least 12 months, 6 months of which in barrique. The Riserva must also have an alcoholic content of at least 13.5% and mature for at least 2 years, including 1 year in barrique. For both, a maximum yield of 59 hl/ha is prescribed.
