Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion AOC

Description to Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion AOC

Along with Montagne, Lussac and Puisseguin, one of the four communes that all lie outside the Saint-Émilion appellation (Bordeaux) immediately north of the Barbanne river. These four communes are also allowed to use their name on the label, in this case Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion. As a special feature, the commune of Saint-Georges may alternatively use the name Montagne-Saint-Émilion. The vineyards cover around 200 hectares of vines. The red wines are predominantly blended from Merlot, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Pressac (Cot) and are similar to those from Saint-Émilion. Well-known producers include Château Belair-Montaiguillon, Château Belair-Saint-Georges, Château Maquin-Saint-Georges, Château Saint-Georges and Château Tour-du-Pas Saint-Georges.
