Description to Saint-Aubin AOC

Municipal appellation for red wines and white wines in the Côte d'Or area in the Côte de Beaune part of the French region of Burgundy. It is named after the commune of the same name. The vineyards cover 150 hectares of vines between the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet (see under Montrachet). One quarter of the wines are red Pinot Noir with Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault, and three quarters are white wines, mostly Chardonnay with permitted Pinot Blanc. There are no Grands Crus, but 20 Premiers Crus with 120 hectares of vineyards whose names may be added to Saint-Aubin Premier Cru. These are Les Castets, Les Champlots, Le Charmois, La Chatenière, Les Combes, Les Cortons, En Créot, Derrière chez Édouard, Derrière la Tour, Les Frionnes, Sur Gamay, Vignes Moingeon, Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, Pitangeret, Les Perrières, Le Puits, En Remilly, Sur le Sentier du Clou, Sous Roche Dumay and Village. An alternative appellation exclusively for red wines is Saint-Aubin-Côte de Beaune. Well-known producers include Domaine Jean-Claude Bachelet et Fils, Doudet Naudin and Joseph Drouhin.
