Description to Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG

DOCG area for red wines in the Italian region of Veneto. The wine type of the DOC area Valpolicella, which is identical in area, was highly classified in 2010. The zone includes the municipalities of Cazzano di Tramigna, Cerro Veronese, Colognola ai Colli, Dolcè, Fumane, Grezzana, Illasi, Lavagno, Marano di Valpolicella, Mezzane di Sotto, Montecchia di Crosara, Negrar, Pescantina, San Martino Buon Albergo, San Mauro di Saline, San Pietro in Cariano, Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, Tregnago and Verona in the province of Verona. The five municipalities of Fumane, Marano di Valpolicella, Negrar, San Pietro in Cariano and Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella form the Valpolicella Classico area with largely terraced sites. The Valpolicella Valpantena subzone comprises a smaller area in the Valpantena valley in a niche of Lake Garda. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna followed by the vineyard name can be indicated onthe label.

The grapes are dried on wooden racks for 100 to 120 days and rotten berries are sorted out ( botrytis is undesirable). Unlike the dry DOCG wine Amarone della Valpolicella, it is vinified sweet. There are five versions: Recioto della Valpolicella, Recioto della Valpolicella Classico, Recioto della Spumante, Recioto della Valpolicella Valpantena and Recioto della Valpolicella Valpantena Spumante.
