Pouilly-Fuissé AOC |
Description to Pouilly-Fuissé AOC
The communal appellation lies as an enclave at the southern end of the Mâconnais area in Burgundy. Due to the similarity of its name, however, it should not be confused with the Pouilly-Fumé area (main variety Sauvignon Blanc) on the Loire. The Saint-Véran appellation adjoins to the south. The vineyards cover 760 hectares of vines in the four communes of Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly and Vergisson. The names of the vineyards may be given. There are no Grands Crus, but Premier Crus since 2022. White wines from the Chardonnay variety are permitted. To the southeast are the two satellite appellations Pouilly-Loché (may also use Mâcon-Loché or Pouilly-Vinzelles) and Pouilly-Vinzelles. Well-known producers of all three appellations are Daniel Barraud, Château de Beauregard, Château de Fuisse, Clos de Bourg, Cordier, Corsin, Michel Forest, Galley-Golliard, Groupement de Producteurs de Prissé, Guffens-Heynen, Roger Lassarat, Luquet, Olivier Merlin, Noblete, René Perraton, Saumaize-Michelin, Soufrandise, Valette, Verget and Vincent (Château de Fuissé).
