Wine regions in Posavje 3 growing regions
Description to Posavje
One of the three wine-growing regions in Slovenia along the border with Croatia, named after the Danube tributary Savje (Sava). It is located in the south of the country and borders the wine-growing region of Podravje to the north. Posavje is divided into the three wine-growing areas Bela Krajina (White Carniola) with 608 hectares, Bizeljsko Sremič with 1,264 hectares and by far the largest Dolenjska (Lower Carniola) with 2,456 hectares. The vineyards thus cover a total of 4,328 hectares of vines. White wines are produced here to a greater extent. Important white wine varieties are Laski Riesling (Welschriesling), Sauvignon Bl anc, Beli Pinot (Pinot Blanc), Sivi Pinot (Pinot Gris), Chardonnay, Rizvanac (Müller-Thurgau), Traminac (Gewürztraminer) and Bela Žlathnina (Chasselas). Important red wine varieties are Modra Portugalka/Modra Kraljevina (Blauer Portugieser), Gamay, Modra Frankinja (Blaufränkisch), Modri Pinot (Pinot Noir), Žametovka (Blauer Kölner), Sentlovrenka (St. Laur ent) and Zweigelt.
