Wine regions in Posavje 3 growing regions

Description to Posavje

One of the three wine-growing regions in Slovenia along the border with Croatia, named after the Danube tributary Savje (Sava). It is located in the south of the country and borders the wine-growing region of Podravje to the north. Posavje is divided into the three wine-growing areas Bela Krajina (White Carniola) with 608 hectares, Bizeljsko Sremič with 1,264 hectares and by far the largest Dolenjska (Lower Carniola) with 2,456 hectares. The vineyards thus cover a total of 4,328 hectares of vines. White wines are produced here to a greater extent. Important white wine varieties are Laski Riesling (Welschriesling), Sauvignon Bl anc, Beli Pinot (Pinot Blanc), Sivi Pinot (Pinot Gris), Chardonnay, Rizvanac (Müller-Thurgau), Traminac (Gewürztraminer) and Bela Žlathnina (Chasselas). Important red wine varieties are Modra Portugalka/Modra Kraljevina (Blauer Portugieser), Gamay, Modra Frankinja (Blaufränkisch), Modri Pinot (Pinot Noir), Žametovka (Blauer Kölner), Sentlovrenka (St. Laur ent) and Zweigelt. There are three wines here with the highest quality level PTP, these are Belokranjec, Cviček and Metliska Crnina. There are some beautiful wine roads leading through the Posavje region. A well-known producer is Keltis.
