Description to Piemonte DOC

DOC area for red and white wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. It covers the entire region with 661 municipalities in the provinces of Allessandria (161), Asti (118), Biella (20), Cuneo (130), Novara (128), Torino (183), Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (17) and Vercelli (7). As there are no IGT wines in Piedmont, this comprehensive designation can be used to produce wines outside the other DOC regulations.

The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% (Moscato 100%) of the respective variety, up to 15% other approved varieties are possible if necessary. The white wines are Chardonnay, Cortese, Moscato(Muscat Blanc), Moscato Passito and Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc). The red wines are Albarossa, Barbera, Bonarda(Bonarda Piemontese), Brachetto(Brachetto del Piemonte), Brachetto Passito, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dolcetto, Freisa, Grignolino, Merlot, Pinot Nero(Pinot Noir) and Syrah.

The Bianco is blended in any use of Chardonnay, Cortese, Favorita(Vermentino) and Erbaluce (zum. 60%), as well as other approved varieties (max. 40%). The Rosso and Rosato types of wine are produced with any use of Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Freisa and Croatina (zum. 60%), as well as other approved varieties (max. 40%).

A Novello of all the red wines. A Frizzante is available in the following wine types: Bianco, Rosso, Rosato, Chardonnay, Cortese, Barbera, Bonarda and Dolcetto. At Spumante the pure varieties must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, and none less than 15% for the types with two varieties. The types are Piemonte (Chardonnay and/or Pinot Bianco and/or Pinot Grigio and/or Pinot Nero), Brachetto, Chardonnay, Cortese, Pinot Bianco(Pinot Blanc), Pinot Grigio(Pinot Gris), Pinot Nero, Pinot (B., G., N.), Pinot-Chardonnay and Chardonnay-Pinot.
