Beaujolais France
Moulin-a-Vent AOC
Moulin-a-Vent AOC |
Description to Moulin-a-Vent AOC
One of the ten cru sites in Beaujolais, named after a windmill located in the Les Thorins site on a 240-metre-high hill. The 770-hectare vineyard is located between the communes of Chénas and Romanèche-Thorins, at an altitude of 250 to 280 metres above sea level, on salmon-red sandstone soils and granitic rocks interspersed with manganese. Gamay red wines are among the most persistent and concentrated in Beaujolais, along with those of the two crus Chénas and Morgon. The best ones develop only after ten years or more and come close to the great Pinot Noir Burgundies in taste. According to an old custom, the wine is carried to the baptismal font of the municipalities every year from the end of October of the following year. Well-known producers are Domaine Berrod, Domaine Bourisset, Domaine Champagnon, Domaine Dominique Piron, Château des Jacques, Jadot, Domaine Paul Janin, Jacky Janodet and Château du Moulin-à-Vent.
