Description to Montescudaio DOC

DOC area for white wines and red wines in the Italian region of Tuscany. The zone includes about 250 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Casale Marittimo, Castellina Marittima, Guardistallo, Montecatini Val di Cecina, Montescudaio, Riparbella and Santa Luce in the province of Pisa

The wine types Bianco and Vin Santo are produced from Trebbiano Toscano (up to 50%) and other authorised varieties (up to 50%). Rosso is produced from Sangiovese (50%) and other authorised varieties (max. 50%)

The pure variety wines must consist of at least 85% of the respective variety, the rest may be other approved varieties of colour. The four red wines are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. The three white wines are Chardonnay, Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc) and Vermentino. Of all red wines there is also a longer matured Riserva.
