Description to Montecucco DOC

DOC area for red wines, rosé wines and white wines in the Maremma area in the Italian region of Tuscany. It covers about 350 hectares of vineyards. The zone includes the municipalities of Arcidosso, Campagnatico, Castel del Piano, Cinigiano, Civitella Paganico, Roccalbegna and Seggiano in the province of Grosseto. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna followed by the vineyard name can be indicated on the bottle label.

The Rosso (also called Riserva) is produced from Sangiovese (max. 60%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 40%). Rosato is produced from Sangiovese and/or Ciliegiolo, as well as other authorised varieties (max. 40%). The Bianco is produced from Trebbiano Toscano and/or Vermentino (max. 40%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 60%). The pure Vermentino must contain 85% of the variety, up to a maximum of 15% other authorised varieties are possible. The white Vin Santo is blended from the varieties Malvasia Bianca = Malvasia Bianca Lunga and or Grechetto Bianco = Grechetto di Orvieto and/or Trebbiano Toscano (max. 70%). The rosé-coloured Vin Santo Occhio di Pernice is produced from Sangiovese (to. 70%).

The wine type Montecucco Sangiovese (also as Riserva) received DOCG status in 2011.
