Description to Merlara DOC
DOC area for white and red wines in the Italian region of Veneto. The zone includes the municipalities of Casale di Scodosia, Castelbaldo, Masi, Merlara, Montagnana and Urbana in the province of Padova, as well as Bevilacqua, Boschi Sant'Anna and Terrazzo in the province of Verona.
The single-varietal wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety; a maximum of 15% can be other authorised varieties. The white wines are Chardonnay, Malvasia (Malvasia Istriana = Malvazija Istarska), Pinot Bianco (Pinot Blanc), Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris), Riesling (Riesling and/or Riesling Italico = Welschriesling) and Tai/Friulano (Sauvignonasse). The red wines are Cabernet (Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Raboso (Raboso Piave and/or Raboso Veronese) and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso.
The Bianco is made from Friulano (50-70%) and other authorised varieties (max. 50%). Rosso (also known as Novello) is made from Merlot (50-70%) and other authorised varieties (max. 50%). A Frizzante is available from the wine types Bianco, Chardonnay and Marzemino.
