Description to Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco DOC
DOC area for red wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. The name honours the Castelnuovo-born priest Don Giovanni Bosco (1815-1888), who founded the Salesian order active in orphan care and is venerated as a saint in his hometown. The zone covers 51 hectares of vineyards from 150 metres above sea level in the municipalities of Albugnano, Berzano di San Pietro, Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Moncucco Torinese, Passerano Marmorito e Pino d'Asti in the Provint of Asti. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna plus site can be indicated. The cherry red Rosso is blended from Malvasia di Schierano and/or Malvasia Nera Lunga (at least 85%), as well as Freisa (maximum 15%). The alcohol content must be at least 5.5% to a maximum of 7% vol (potentially 10.5%). At Spumante this is at least 6% up to a maximum of 7% vol (potentially 11%). No ageing period is prescribed for the wines.
