Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco DOC |
Description to Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco DOC
DOC area for red wines (Cerasuolo) in the Italian region of Piedmont. The name honours the Castelnuovo-born priest Don Giovanni Bosco (1815-1888), who founded the Salesian order active in orphan care and is venerated as a saint in his hometown. The zone covers 40 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Albugnano, Berzano di San Pietro, Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Moncucco Torinese, Passerano Marmorito e Pino d'Asti in the Provint Asti. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna may be indicated followed by the vineyard name. The cherry red wine is blended from Malvasia di Schierano and/or Malvasia Nera Lunga (to 85%), as well as Freisa (max. 15%). It is a light-coloured red wine and is usually produced as a frizzante. There is also a spumante in the style of a rosato.
