Description to Malvasia di Casorzo d'Asti DOC
DOC area (also Malvasia di Casorzo or Casorzo) for red and rosé wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone covers 59 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Altavilla Monferrato, Olivola, Ottiglio and Vignale Monferrato in the province of Alessandria, and Casorzo, Grana and Grazzano in the province of Asti. The Rosso and Rosato(Cerasuolo) wine types are made from Malvasia di Casorzo (at least 90%), as well as other varieties (maximum 10%). The alcohol content must be at least 5.5% vol (potentially 10.5%). At Passito this is at least 10% vol. (potentially 15%), the residual sugar must be at least 50 g/l. For Spumante this is at least 6.5% vol. (potentially 11%). No ageing period is prescribed for the wines.
