Malvasia delle Lipari DOC

Description to Malvasia delle Lipari DOC

DOC area for sweet white wine in the Italian region or on the island of Sicily. The zone includes the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands; in particular the two islands of Salina and Stromboli, which are part of the province of Messina. The Greeks settled the islands as early as 580 B.C. and cultivated wine. The Greek historian Diodor (1st century B.C.) reported on a Malvasia vine. The painter Carlo Hauner, who came from Brescia, founded a winery on Salina in 1963. He thus successfully reactivated the age-old tradition of sweet dessert wines

The wine is made from the two varieties Malvasia di Lipari (max 95%) and Corinto Nero = Sangiovese (5-8%). There are also the two versions Passito made from air-dried grapes and a Liquoroso with an alcoholic strength of at least 16% vol.
