Lugana DOC |
Description to Lugana DOC
DOC area for white wine in the border area of the two Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto. The zone, with about 700 hectares of vineyards, includes the municipalities of Desenzano del Garda, Lonato, Pozzolengo and Sirmione in the province of Brescia, and Peschiera del Garda in the province of Verona. It is named after the plain of the same name (glacial basin) at the southern end of Lake Garda (Lago di Garda), which extends from the province of Brescia (Lombardy) to the province of Verona (Veneto). If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna can be indicated followed by the name of the vineyard. The white wine, straw yellow to greenish and very similar to Soave, is made from Trebbiano di Soave or Trebbiano di Lugana = Verdicchio Bianco (zum. 90%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 10%). There are also the wine types Riserva (longer maturation period), Vendemmia tardiva(late harvest), Spumante and Superiore (stronger alcohol).
