Description to Freisa d'Asti DOC
DOC zone for red wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone covers the hilly area of the province of Asti with 171 hectares of vineyards in 118 municipalities. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna plus site can be indicated. The wine is made from 90% (until 2020 it was 100%) of the Freisa variety, the rest can be other varieties. The wine must have at least 11.5% alcohol by volume, or 12% if the vineyard is named. For the Superiore, 12.5% and at least 12 months of ageing apply, six months of which in barrique. There is also a Spumante (11%) in the variants Metodo classico (bottle fermentation) and Metodo martinotti (Méthode charmat = tank fermentation method).
