Description to Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba DOCG

DOCG zone (also Diano or Diano d'Alba) for red wine in the Italian region of Piedmont. The upgrading from DOC took place in 2010. The zone covers 330 hectares of vineyards in the area of the namesake mountain town of Diano d'Alba. It lies between the better-known DOCG areas of Barolo and Barbaresco. The 75 sunny south-facing slopes have a special status. Through the efforts of the municipality and the setting of low yield limits (56 hl/ha), official recognition as single vineyard sites (Sori) was achieved for the first time in Italy.

These may be listed on the label preceded by Vigna.

The wine is made from 100% pure Dolcetto grapes. It must be matured for at least three months and have an alcohol content of at least 12% vol, or 12.5% vol if a vineyard is indicated. With at least 10 months of maturation, it can call itself Superiore. Well-known producers include Alario, Abrigo Giovanni, Bricco Maiolica, Cantina della Porta Rossa, Colué, Fontanafredda, Mascarello, Savigliano and Veglio.

Other five Dolcetto areas in Piedmont are the DOC wines Dolcetto d'Acqui, Dolcetto d' Alba, Dolcetto d'Asti and Dolcetto di Ovada as well as the DOCG wine Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore.
