Description to Dolcetto d'Asti DOC
DOC area for red wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone covers 113 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Bubbio, Cassinasco, Castel Boglione, Castelletto Molina, Castel Rocchero, Cessole, Fontanile, Loazzolo, Maranzana, Mombaldone, Mombaruzzo, Monastero Bormida, Montabone, Olmo Gentile, Quaranti, Roccaverano, Rocchetta Palafea, San Giorgio Scarampi, Serole, Sessame and Vesime, and on the right bank of the Belbo River, the municipalities of Calamandrana, Canelli and Nizza Monferrato in the province of Asti. The wine is made from 100% Dolcetto. It must have an alcohol content of at least 11.5% by volume; a maturing period is not prescribed. For a Superiore, 12.5% and 12 months of ageing apply.
Other five Dolcetto areas in Piedmont are the DOC wines Dolcetto d'Acqui, Dolcetto d'Alba, Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba and Dolcetto di Ovada as well as the DOCG wine Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore.
