Description to D.O. Ribera del Júcar

The DO area named after the river of the same name is located in the east of the Spanish region of La Mancha. It was only classified in 2003. The vineyards cover 9,200 hectares of vineyards in seven municipalities in the province of Cuenca on both sides of the Júcar, at an altitude of 650 to 750 metres above sea level. The climate is continental and dry, with extremely hot summers and very cold winters. The soil consists of loose, gravelly scree on the surface and clayey soil in the subsoil with good water retention capacity. This area is only for red wines made from the authorised varieties Bobal, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cencibel (Tempranillo).
