Description to D.O. Cebreros
The VCIG area(quality wine) for red, rosé and white wines named after the municipality is located in the Spanish province of Ávila in the south of the Castilla y León region. The former rural wine area was classified in 2017. It borders on the two DO areas of Vinos de Madrid(Madrid) and Méntrida(Castilla-La Mancha). Together, these three areas form the Sierra de Gredos mountain range, which slopes northwards towards the Alberche Valley and southwards towards the Tiétar Valley.
The wines from here have been known since the 14th century. The vineyards cover 2,000 hectares of vines at 500 to 2,000 metres above sea level on granite and slate soils. Some of the vines are very old, over 70 years old. The climate is continental-Mediterranean with cold, snowy winters and warm, dry summers. The red and rosé wines are blended from Garnacha Tinta (95%), Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Henri Bouschet) and Tempranillo. The white wines are produced from 100% single-varietal Albillo Real.
