Description to Côtes de Saint-Mont AOP
The appellation, named after the town of Saint-Mont, is located north of the Madiran area in the south of the southwest wine region of France. The former VDQS area was highly classified as AOC in 2011. The vineyards cover more than 1,200 hectares. Red wine and rosé are blended from the varieties Tannat (60%), Fer (20%), Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and (only until 2020) Merlot. For the white wine the varieties Arrufiac (zum. 20%), Courbu Blanc (zum. 20%), as well as Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng (max. 60%) are used. Well known producers are Domaine de Maouries and Producteurs Plaimont. In the municipality of Sarragachies there is a very special vineyard with ancient vines or grape varieties.
