AOC area (also Coteaux Varois en Provence) in the centre of the French wine region Provence as an enclave within the AOC area Côtes de Provence. The vineyards cover 1,750 hectares of vineyards in 28 communes in the Var department, with Brignoles, once the summer residence of the Counts of Provence, in the centre. Two thirds of the red wine produced is blended from 80% Mourvèdre(Monastrell), Syrah and Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta) and a maximum of 20% Cinsaut, Carignan Noir(Mazuelo) and Cabernet Sauvignon. The rosé consists of 70% Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache Noir, and a maximum of 30% Cinsaut, Carignan Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tibouren. The white wine is produced from zum. 30% Vermentino, max. 30% Sémillon, max. 25% Ugni Blanc(Trebbiano Toscano), as well as Clairette and Grenache Blanc(Garnacha Blanca). Well known producers are Domaine de Chaberts, Domaine du Deffends, Château la Galisse, Château Margillerie, Château Real Martin, Château Routas, Domaine de St-Jean, Château Thuerry and Doimaine de Valcolombe.
