Cheverny AOC

Description to Cheverny AOC

The appellation, named after the town of the same name in the département of Loir-et-Cher, is an enclave in the north-east of the Touraine region. The former VDQS area was classified in 1993. The vineyards cover 2,000 hectares of vines on predominantly sandy clay soils in 24 communes, of which around 550 hectares are planted. They extend in terraces along the left bank of the Loire from the Sologneregion, rich in forests and lakes, to the edge of the Orléans region. The appellation partially overlaps with the small area of Cour-Cheverny

The red wines are mainly blended from the Gamay and Pinot Noir varieties (85%), as well as shares of Cabernet Franc and Cot. For the rosé wines, mainly Gamay, as well as Pineau d'Aunis and Pinot Noir are used. The white wines are produced from Sauvignon Blanc (60-85%), as well as Arbois Blanc(Menu Pineau), Chardonnay and Pineau de la Loire(Chenin Blanc). Well known producers are François Gazin, Jean-Michel Courtioux, Domaine de la Desoucherie, Domaine de la Gaudronnière, Domaine Maison Pere et Fils, Domaine des Huards and Domaine Sauger.
