Cassis AOC

Description to Cassis AOC

The appellation, named after the town of the same name, is located in the far west of the Provence wine region. It was classified in 1936 as the first in the region. The vineyards cover only 180 hectares of land a few kilometres east of Marseille. Unusually for the region, over 70% white wines, over 20% rosé wines and a small amount of red wines are produced. The white wine is produced from the main varieties Clairette and Marsanne (together zum. 60%, zum. 30% Marsanne), as well as Ugni Blanc(Trebbiano Toscano), Pascal Blanc, Doucillon (Bourboulenc) and Sauvignon Blanc blended. Red wine and rosé are composed of Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Carignan Noir(Mazuelo), Mourvèdre(Monastrell), Cinsaut and Barbaroux. Well-known producers are Domaine du Bagnol, Domaine La Ferme Blanche, Château de Fontcreuse and Clos Sainte-Magdeleine.
