Cannonau di Sardegna DOC |
Description to Cannonau di Sardegna DOC
DOC area for red and rosé wines in the Italian region of Sardinia. The poet Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863-1938) named the wine from Oliena "Nepente" after the opium-like intoxicant of the ancient Greeks. The zone covers the entire island. The Classico area includes the province of Nuoro (with Ogliastra). There are three subzones that may be listed on the label. The Capo Ferrato subzone includes the municipalities of Castiadas, Muravera, San Vito, Villaputzu and Villasimius in the province of Cagliari. The Jerzu subzone comprises the municipalities of Cardedu and Jerzu in the province of Nuoro. The Oliena or Nepente di Oliena subzone includes the municipality of Oliena and part of Orgosolo in the province of Nuoro. The wines must contain at least 85% of the Cannonau (Garnacha Tinta) variety, those from the Classico area at least 90%; other varieties are permitted up to a maximum of 15%. There are the wine types Rosso, Rosso Riserva, Rosato, Passito, Liquoroso and Classico.
