Bonnezeaux AOC |
Description to Bonnezeaux AOC
The appellation is located as an enclave within the Coteaux du Layon area in the Loire wine region. It covers 130 hectares of vines on slate soils on the three south-facing steep slopes of Beauregard, Fesles and La Montagne in the municipality of Bellevigne-en-Layon on the right bank of the Layon, a tributary of the Loire. This long-lasting sweet wine is made from 100% pure variety of noble rot (not necessarily) or at least overripe grapes of the Chenin Blanc variety (here Pineau de la Loire). The yield is limited to a maximum of 25 hl/ha, the alcohol content must be at least 12% vol, the residual sugar content at least 34 g/l.
Well-known producers in the area are Château de Fesles, Château la Fresnaye, Château la Varière, Domaine de la Croix des Loges, Domaine Godineau, Domaine Les Grandes Vignes - Vaillant, Domaine des Petits Quarts, Domaine du Petit Val, Domaine de Terrebrune and La Ferme de la Sansonnière. A second enclave within the Coteaux du Layon area with very similar wines is the AOC Quarts de Chaume.
