Barbera del Monferrato DOC

Description to Barbera del Monferrato DOC

DOC area for red wine in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone covers about 1,000 hectares of vineyards in 214 municipalities in the two provinces of Asti (116) and Alessandria (98). If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna can be indicated followed by the name of the vineyard. The wine is produced from Barbera (85%), Freisa and/or Grignolino and/or Dolcetto (max. 15%). There is also a Frizzante (no Vigna indication is possible here). The Barbera del Monferrato Superiore was classified as DOCG in 2008. Two other areas in Piedmont with Barbera-dominated red wines are Barbera d'Asti and Barbera d'Alba.
