Description to Alghero DOC
DOC area for red, rosé and white wines in the north-west corner of the Italian region of Sardinia. The zone covers in its entirety the municipalities of Alghero, Ittiri, Olmedo, Ossi, Tissi, Uri and Usini, as well as a part of Sassari in the province of Sassari. The largest Sardinian winery Sella & Mosca is located in the provincial capital Alghero. The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, the rest can be other approved ones. The red wines are Cabernet(Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Carmenère), Cagnulari or Cagniulari(Graciano), Merlot and Sangiovese. The white wines are Chardonnay, Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc), Torbato and Vermentino. The wine types Bianco, Rosso (also as Novello and Liquoroso) and Rosato can be produced in any mixture or use of the approved varieties. All red wines are also available as longer matured Riserva. As Spumante there are Bianco, Chardonnay and Torbato. As Frizzante there are Bianco, Rosato and Vermentino. A sweet passito is only available from Bianco.
