2015 Volkach Ratsherr Riesling Grosses Gewächs trocken, Franconia/Franken, Germany

Warm, sweetish nose, candied yellow fruit, vegetal aromas, touch of yellow spice, noticeable high alcohol, hint of morrels, light mineral notes. Ripe, partly preserved and candied, rather sweet fruit on the palate, nutty oak, hint of tobacco, lively acidity, ripe tannins provide grip, full body and high alcohol, good persistence, warm style, some sugar candy, touch of mustard cucumber, slightly bitter, smoky oak, followed by slightly obtrusive sweetness, vegetal notes and sweet fruit on a very good, alcoholic, slightly smoky finish. The development is somewhat negative, as fruit, oak, alcohol and sugar are starting to fall apart, rather than come together.
