Weingut Uwe Lützkendorf

The winery is located in the municipality of Bad Kösen in the German wine-growing region of Saale-Unstrut. Until 1959, the founder Lützkendorf farmed two hectares before his business was affiliated with an agricultural cooperative. His son Udo then worked as cellar master and director at the former state-owned and now state wine estate Kloster Pforta from 1972 to 1992. In 1991, the family was given back its vineyards. The founder's grandson Uwe Lützkendorf made extensive investments in the revitalisation and construction of estate buildings. The vineyards cover 11 hectares in the single vineyard sites Edelacker (Freyburg), Hohe Gräte (Karsdorf) and Pfortenser Köppelberg (Naumburg). They are planted with the white wine varieties Silvaner (one third), Riesling, Pinot Noir, Traminer, Müller-Thurgau and Kerner, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Portugieser and Zweigelt. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is practised with permanent cover crop and without herbicides. The wines are matured very reductively in stainless steel or wooden barrels, depending on the type of wine. They are mainly vinified classically dry. The winery is a member of the VDP.
