Editor note: Tart, clearly planty nose with very restrained yellow fruity and floral notes. Clear, straightforward, cool fruit, quite juicy, not completely dry, planty and slightly yeasty notes, has bite, good persistence, clear, rather light minerality, good to very good finish with light juice and some draught
Denmark is not important in viticulture, but people there have always liked to consume wine. One of the most prominent wine lovers was King Christian IV. (1577-1648). For his numerous festivities he had Riesling imported by the barrel from the German Middle Rhine wine region. Since August 2000 Denmark has been recognised as a wine-growing region by the European Union. This means that Danish wine can be sold for commercial purposes. The white grape variety is an interspecific new variety Seibel 5656 x Seibel 4986(Rayon d'Or). Synonyms are Fresco, Seival, Seyval, Seyve-Villard, Seyve-Villard 5-276 and SV 5-276. The red variety Seyval Noir was created with the same parents. It contains genes from Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. This hybrid is, together with Villard Blanc, one of the most successful breeds of the formerly very important vine breeding farm Seyve-Villard in Saint-Vallier in the Département Isère (Rhône Valley)....
