The winery is located in the municipality of Fels am Wagram in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wagram. The traditional family has been growing grapes since 1794. Today, the winery is run by Franz Sauerstingl Jr., who has been responsible for the cellar since the 2002 vintage. The vineyards cover 12 hectares, among others in the two vineyards Brunnthal and Scheiben on mineral-rich, sandy-loamy soils, which allow deep rooting of the vines. Around 90% of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Roter Veltliner, and the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in steel tanks, in large wooden bar rels or in barriques. The predominant loess soils are particularly suitable for Grüner Veltliner, the house speciality. This variety is vinified depending on the geological conditions or in ascending order of complexity and maturity in the four variants LÖSS I (light and fruity), LÖSS II, LÖSS III Scheiben and LÖSS IV Brunnthal (full-bodied and expressive, from old vines with long ageing on the fine le es). The red wine cuvée "Dark Red Löss" (from the three red wine varieties) is aged for 24 months in barriques. The rosé frizzante "Bubbles" (Cabernet Sauvignon) is also produced. The winery is a member of the Wagramer Selektion association.
