1999 Bürgstadt Centgrafenberg Spätburgunder Spätlese trocken "R", Franconia/Franken, Germany

Matt ruby to garnet red, lighter at the rim. Rather closed, multi-layered bouquet of plums, forest berries, cherries, fine-grained oak and cold smoke with toasty aromas. Dense, firmly structured fruit, at present rather cool and restrained, very fine, noticeable tannins, lightly smoky oak spice, enormous power and depth on the palate. Both the tannins and the prominent mineral notes provide structure, decidedly persistent, intense Pinot aromas, excellent balance, very long finish.
