1999 Bürgstadt Centgrafenberg Frühburgunder Auslese trocken "R", Franconia/Franken, Germany

Matt, deep ruby to garnet red, lighter on the rim. Closed and nevertheless enticing on the nose: plums and red berries, dried fruit, smoky oak wood, sugar candy, tobacco and dried flower petals. Juicy, concentrated fruit, well-defined tannins, tremendous fruit sweetness, impressive stature, dense, deep and extremely persistent, complex spice derived from the terroir, incredible presence on the palate, gripping, overwhelming finish. A masterpiece. Will probably improve even further with a bit of age.
