The winery is located in the municipality of Wiesenbronn (Steigerwald area) at the foot of the Schwanberg in the German wine-growing region of
Franconia. A new vinotheque was completed in 2007. The winery is run by Gerhard Roth, already the fifth generation of the family to do so. The vineyards cover 16 hectares of vineyards in the Altenberg (Abtswind), as well as Geißberg, Heller Berg and Wachhügel (Wiesenbronn) sites. Half of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Bacchus, Kerner, Traminer and Scheurebe, and the other half with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, Portugieser, Schwarzriesling, Domina and Regent.
Organic viticulture has been practiced in accordance with the guidelines of the organic association
Naturland since 1974. The winery is therefore one of the pioneers.
In the vineyards natural
cover crop with additional targeted seeding from a mixture of
legumes, grasses and herbs. To protect the vines from
powdery and downy
mildew, the environmentally friendly technique of removing superfluous leaves and shoots is used. All wines are estate bottlings. The red wines are basically subject to the classic mash fermentation and are always fermented through. They are matured in large oak barrels and stainless steel, as well as occasionally in barrique. The best qualities are bottled under the name "Heller Berg". The white wines are fermented
spontaneously by the grape's own yeasts and mature in stainless steel. They are bottled predominantly dry up to late harvest qualities. Sparkling wines, bottle-fermented sparkling wines and noble brandies (yeast, marc, wine, fruit) are also produced. The winery is a member of the
VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates)
