The winery is located in the municipality of Riol (Bernkastel area) in the German Moselle
wine region. It is managed by master vintner Franz-Peter Schmitz. The vineyards cover eight hectares in the areas of Maximiner Herrenberg
(Longuich), the eponymous Römerberg (Riol), as well as Blattenberg and Zellerberg (Mehring). They are planted with the two white wine varieties Riesling and Müller-Thurgau, as well as the two red wine varieties Frühburgunder and Spätburgunder. Natural viticulture is practiced. While the dry to fruit-sweet Rieslings are matured in stainless steel, the red wines and the noble sweet Rieslings mature in large wooden barrels and partly also in barrique barrels. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and noble brandies are also produced.
